The Eden Park Nexus - DAAPworks Spring 2024

The Eden Park Nexus is a live-work artist space and gallery project that aims to revitalize an industrial relic - the Eden Park Pump Station - in a way that serves the contemporary needs of the Eden Park area. The existing circulation paths are peeled off from the site and wrapped within the building to create an experiential public gallery space as an extension of the park.
A study on the existing Sheakley Center for Youth in Cincinnati was done by creating a "kit of parts" that took an inventory of all building components in the existing structure. This helped to inform future project decisions and how the concepts of circular architecture could be applied by suggesting the reuse of certain building elements from a hypothetical demolition project.
Experimental research in the field of circular architecture and the reuse of materials was also conducted throughout the semester. Reclaimed wood materials were used to create charcoal powder which was in turn used to dye structural materials in order to create a new material for architectural use.
